North West 200 - 2022

Last weekend saw the return of the popular North West 200, one of the biggest outdoor sporting events in Northern Ireland.

The motorcycle racing event has been absent from the sporting calendar since the coronavirus pandemic, which cancelled the previous two year's races. This year the event had been eagerly anticipated from road racing fans across the world; and there is no doubt, it was great to have the North West 200 back.

The triangle circuit on the north coast takes place along 8.9 miles of public roads. Tuesday and Thursday are the practice races with race day on the Saturday.

Our Events team had been working alongside event organisers over the past few months to ensure the traffic management plans met the approval of all stakeholders. This included pre-event planning, three event days and post-event clearing.

We installed over 1300 'No Waiting Cones' strategically to prevent unauthorised parking ensuring clear access around the circuit. Various road closures were put in place, as well as Variable Message Signs to advise road users of the closures.

Fortunately, the weather provided perfect conditions for race day and the schedule went to plan. Most importantly, everyone got home safe. Premier Traffic Systems were delighted to have been involved in this prestigious road racing event and helping support to make the event a success. The event not only showcases unique road racing, but fantastic visitor attractions in the Causeway coast area.
